November 8, 2015 * Children's Institute, Pittsburgh, PA
The Section on Pediatrics of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) will be sponsoring a Tri My Best Triathlon in conjunction with the Section on Pediatrics Annual Conference (SoPAC) in Pittsburgh, PA. This initiative seeks to support the Section on Pediatrics mission to represent pediatric physical therapy and serve as a collective voice to support provision of the highest quality physical therapy services to children, their families, and adults with developmental disabilities. It will also emphasize supporting the Section's vision of transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience for all children, adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
This Tri My Best Triathlon is for individuals aged 5-21 years with developmental disabilities. Twenty athletes will compete in swim, bike, and run events with adaptations and modifications. Each athlete will have two volunteer buddies to assist them. Athletes must have ridden a bike before, even if with modifications and assistance. Athletes also must be comfortable in the pool with flotation devices and assistance.
